New graduates are being hired in perianesthesia settings to meet staffing needs- a new and growing change for many departments. New graduates need extra education, mentorship, and support for retention and resilience. Preceptors are more experienced staff who are vulnerable to burnout and also need support. Nurse educators and managers must develop a plan to improve new graduate and preceptor retention and resilience. Staff nurses also benefit from this information as they may be an unassigned mentor and support the new graduate and preceptor.
